SMG Eaton Rapids adds physicians, accepting new patients

Published: September 1, 2021

CHARLOTTE, MI – Amy Blaising Wallace, D.O., is now based full-time at Sparrow Medical Group Eaton Rapids, adding to the leading-edge patient care provided by Kimberly Friar, M.D., Julie Coenen, NP, and Jessica Hamel, NP.

Wallace is excited to devote herself to the clinical practice after serving as Medical Director of Population Health for Sparrow Care Network (SCN) for the past 3 1/2 years.

“I’m happy to be transitioning to ‘one job’ in the SMG Eaton Rapids practice as my home base,” she said. “I have enjoyed my time serving the Eaton Rapids community for the past 3.5 years and getting to know patients during my limited, weekly clinical time. I now look forward to serving even more families and children in the area.”

Wallace, a Battle Creek native, began practicing part-time at SMG Eaton Rapids in 2018 while simultaneously implementing initiatives at SCN that led to greater clinical integration, physician engagement, and performance improvement. She brings 22 years of family practice experience.

As a whole, the SMG Eaton Rapids practitioners aim to focus on the healthcare needs of the entire family, and particularly enjoy the care of infants and children.

“We have an incredible team that really provides the full scope of primary care, serving patients of all ages” Blaising Wallace said. “Jessica (Hamel) continues to serve at Sparrow’s Labor and Delivery Unit periodically, so her experience with women’s care is an amazing asset. In addition, Kimm (Friar) and Julie (Coenen) both have decades of experience providing care to families and individuals in Eaton County.”

“While every family practice sees patients from young to old, these female healthcare providers really have a unique set of clinical skills and understanding among them,” says Tammy Merritt, Sparrow Eaton Hospital’s Director of Physician Practices. “And the recent integration of behavioral health specialists and patient care facilitators support continuity of care for our patients.”

Those looking for a primary care provider or to schedule an appointment may contact SMG Eaton Rapids Family Medicine at 517.663.4809. The practice accepts most major insurances and currently operates 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays.
