Sparrow has achieved national recognition that places us among the top 3.4 percent of U.S. hospitals and 4.3 percent of all ambulatory practices in the U.S.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has granted Stage 7 status to Sparrow for our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) adoption, a designation that reflects Sparrow’s commitment to the highest levels of Patient safety and quality care.
“This recognition for our entire team is consistent with Sparrow’s Michigan Quality Council Leadership Award and Magnet Hospital redesignation for nursing excellence,” said Dennis Swan, Sparrow President and CEO. “Our success in pursuing organizational excellence is reflected in this honor.”
Sparrow is the second hospital in Michigan and one of about 190 hospitals/health systems in the country who have earned Stage 7.
“Achieving the highest level of EMR and health IT adoption improves quality and safety as well as Patient satisfaction and value,” said Tom Bres, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Sparrow. “We could not have achieved this without an amazing, dedicated team, focused on innovation that matters for our Patients and the community.”
Sparrow achieved Stage 6 in February 2014. Certification as Stage 7 required a fully electronic medical record, use of data warehousing and other criteria.

Sparrow Hospital and Sparrow Medical Group sites were included in this assessment. iSparrow EMR was deployed throughout the Health System in 2012.
