Sparrow Hospital Caregivers have achieved a success rate of above 99 percent for scanning Patient medications – among the top 5 percent of all Epic users in the country.
Caregivers use barcoding to scan medications and Patient wristbands to avoid medication errors. This extra layer of security helps ensure the “5 rights” of Patient safety: the right Patient, the right drug, the right dose, the right route, and the right time.
This high success rate can be attributed to our dedicated Caregivers and our work to ensure we’re utilizing our EMR by implementing the latest technology for the safety of our Patients. Our successful use of medication barcoding is one way Sparrow is following the Sparrow Way and implementing standardized, evidence-based best practices.
