Overflowing Blood drive support honoring Caregiver’s child

Published: April 21, 2014

Grace Bushey, 13, of Mason, stopped by the blood drive to show her appreciation (and talk with the local press!)

The blood drive held in honor of Grace Bushey, daughter of Sparrow Laboratory Caregiver Stacey Bushey, was an overwhelming success. Chairs filled up with donors waiting their turn and the interview booths were in full use throughout the day. In all, 72 units of blood were collected.

It quickly became clear that a big turnout was in store, so by noon Red Cross officials had scheduled a second "overflow" blood drive to accommodate those who wanted to donate, but couldn't wait in line.

Grace and her mom Stacey stopped by to show their appreciation to donors and even talked with the local media about the amazing support from their Sparrow family. Then it was off to crash "pizza day" at school - one of the few "normal" things Grace tries to do when she feels good, since treatments for leukemia have kept her out of school since February.

If you were not able to come by on Friday, or came but couldn't wait, the "overflow" blood drive will run this Friday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., in the Sparrow Professional Building, 3rd floor Atrium.

To schedule an appointment, please call 1.800.REDCROSS or log on to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code SPAR. Walk-in donors are also welcome.
