Sparrow Carson Hospital Names Two to Board of Directors

CARSON CITY, MI – Sparrow Carson Hospital has announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors, which governs the hospital and works closely with its senior leadership.

Joining the board for three-year terms are Michael Racine, M.D., Emergency Medicine physician and the hospital’s current Medical Chief of Staff, and Renee Sopel, former principal of Ithaca Upper Elementary School.

Dr. Racine is an Emergency Department Board certified physician who earned his medical degree and completed his residency at Michigan State University. Dr. Racine has been part of the Medical Staff and Emergency Department team at Sparrow Carson since June 2013.

Sopel completed her education at Alma College and Central Michigan University. She was a teacher for 27 years, and a principal for seven years at Ithaca Junior High School and Elementary.

Sparrow Carson Hospital sincerely thanks outgoing members Russell Anderson, D.O., and Gary Reetz for their many years of service on the board. Dr. Anderson continues to provide excellent patient care at Sparrow Medical Group Ithaca, as he has since 1998. A past Sparrow Carson Medical Chief of Staff, he served on the board from January 2019 to December 2021.

Reetz was a member of the board since 2015 when it was still Carson City Hospital and provided over 40 years of healthcare financial and administrative experience at various organizations.
