Sparrow celebrates its compassionate, caring Physicians

LANSING, MI – Sparrow is showing appreciation for its Physicians in honor of National Doctors’ Day today, Thursday, March 30.

National Doctors’ Day is our chance to recognize what Sparrow’s more than 950 Physicians have done to transform care in the mid-Michigan region.

Sparrow Physicians, with their everyday actions, put the needs of our Patients first and make a true difference in Patient care.

Sparrow Physicians are exemplified by people like I. Carol Nwelue, M.D., who is Medical Director of Sparrow Hospital’s Adult Hospitalists.

Dr. Nwelue’s parents were born and raised in Nigeria. Her mother is a Nurse and her father planned to be a Physician before pursuing a career in business.

Dr. Nwelue said she was deciding between being a doctor or a lawyer when she saw a television interview of a Physician with a mobile healthcare unit and felt inspired to follow a path to medicine.

A Texas native, she said she loves working as part of a team, “like a family.” Hospitalists serve as the primary care doctors for adult hospital Patients. Dr. Nwelue said she likes being a Hospitalist because it allows her to explore many different areas of medicine.
“Medicine is a really great career,” she says. “It takes a lot of time and a lot of work. But it’s all about caring for people.”

Dr. Nwelue is the recipient of this year’s Sparrow Physician Leadership Award for an emerging leader who provides outstanding work in areas such as safety, clinical or service excellence, research, teaching, publishing, teamwork and/or innovation.

Today and every day, Sparrow thanks its Physicians for their professional and personal contributions to success at Sparrow Hospital, Sparrow Specialty Hospital, Sparrow Carson Hospital, Sparrow Clinton Hospital, and Sparrow Ionia Hospital.

Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.
