LANSING, Mich. - This year's Meijer Holiday Hoops Invitational is about more than just exciting high school basketball, though there will be plenty of that.

The Dec. 28 day of hoops at the Breslin Student Events Center at Michigan State University is a huge fundraiser for the Sparrow Foundation. Net proceeds will be used to benefit numerous funds supporting the Sparrow Children's Center, a Children's Miracle Network Hospital.

Those funds include the Coaches for Kids Fund, Athletes for Kids, and Officials for Kids.

The stellar lineup of games starts at 11 a.m. with Lansing Catholic versus Detroit Consortium and ends at 8 p.m. with Okemos against Flint Powers. In between will be games featuring top programs, such as East Lansing, Waverly, Saginaw Buena Vista and Rockford.

Tickets are $12 purchased at the door, in advance at the Breslin Center box office or online at holidayhoops.org. Students at participating schools may purchase tickets at their schools for $7.

The event is underwritten by Meijer. Sponsors also include Auto-Owners Insurance, Blue Care Network, Dean Trailways of Michigan, Pepsi Bottling Group of Lansing, Delta Dental, Go Green Glass, Hungry Howie's, Turkeyman, Spalding, and SPORT magazine.
