Community and Sparrow leaders officially “cut the ribbon” July 30 on a new Emergency Services facility at Sparrow Clinton Hospital during the first of three special celebrations that allowed donors, Caregivers and the public to visit and tour the new site.
Sparrow Clinton Hospital opened its new, state-of-the-art Emergency Services Department Wednesday, Aug. 6, making quality emergency care even easier to access in Clinton County.
“It’s a beautiful, modern emergency facility built with the outstanding support of our community,” says Ed Bruun, President and CEO of Sparrow Clinton Hospital. “This vital improvement in emergency services will allow us to continue to provide the people of St. Johns and its surrounding communities with immediate, local health care when care is most needed.”
SCH Emergency Services serves more than 14,000 patients each year, and that number is growing. At 9,935 square feet, the new facility is three times the size of the old emergency department.
This $5.7-million project was funded in part by $2.2-million in community donations, including a $600,000 gift from the Alice Jumper Estate.
From private high-tech treatment rooms to innovative methods to ensure Patient flow, the new ER is designed to maintain and enhance the quality of care with comfortable, first-class accommodations for Patients and families. See more photos.
Features include eight private rooms and two trauma treatment rooms as well as an exclusive lobby, a family conference room, an observation room where Patients can wait for test results, a centralized nursing station, and a decontamination treatment area.
The new Emergency entrance off Oakland Street will be open 24 hours.
Patients will no longer access emergency services through the Sturgis Street entrance. As of Aug. 6, that entry will be dedicated to Patients seeking outpatient procedures and laboratory services, and inpatient hospital visitors. The Sturgis Street entrance will be closed and locked during evening hours. It will be open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This new emergency services facility is one of many Sparrow renovations that have resulted in more than $250 million reinvested in the region over the last three years.
