A Sparrow Clinton Hospital Nurse’s special care of an elderly Patient helped earn her the hospital’s DAISY Award for exceptional nursing skills.
Tasha Karek, RN, of St. Johns gained high praise from the Patient’s daughters for her work during the night shift, and earned a nomination for the DAISY Award.
“Tasha went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable with leaving our mother in her care each night,” wrote the daughters, who wish to remain anonymous. “She was the reason our mom regained her strength, and we feel she also helped decrease her length of stay.”
Karek joined the Sparrow family in 2005, and has been a member of the Sparrow Clinton Inpatient Care team for the past four years. Prior to earning her nursing degree, she worked at the hospital as a Medical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician.
“I enjoy talking to Patients, and reassuring them and their families,” said Karek. “Everyone in our area wants to come to Sparrow Clinton Hospital because they know we truly care about our Patients as people. Every Patient counts.”
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by Nurses every day. Nurses are nominated for the award by their Patients and families.
Beth. Daugherty, RN, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Sparrow Clinton, joined DAISY committee nurses in presenting Karek with the award, a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, and a hand-carved sculpture entitled The Healer’s Touch. In addition, a DAISY Foundation banner signed by Karek will be posted in the hospital.
Nurse nominees Wendy Embs, Kara George, Laura Lewis, and Brenda Simmer also were recognized. Each received a DAISY pin.
“DAISY Award nominees personify the remarkable Patient experience at Sparrow Clinton Hospital,” Daugherty said. “They provide extraordinary, skilled care with great compassion every day.”
Sparrow Clinton Hospital honors two Nurses each year as DAISY Award winners. To nominate an exceptional Sparrow Clinton Nurse, complete and return a form from one of The DAISY Foundation displays at the hospital.
