Carol Pickott, BSN, RN, of Dimondale has been recognized by Sparrow Clinton Hospital (SCH) for her special nursing skills, earning the hospital’s first DAISY Award.
Sponsored by The DAISY Foundation, the DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by Nurses every day.
Pickott, a veteran Nurse with 31 years of experience, joined the Sparrow family in 1997, and has been a member of the SCH Emergency Services team for the past year. She was on duty one night when Bonnie Hettler of St. Johns arrived in the Emergency Services Department with severe back and shoulder pain.
Hettler didn’t anticipate the high level of compassion and reassurance she received from Pickott. That experience inspired her to nominate Pickott for the DAISY Award.
“Her calm, professional demeanor made my visit to the emergency department so much less scary,” says Hettler. “Although the ER was busy, I felt she was on top of my situation. She periodically popped in to give me updates, and that was greatly appreciated.”
Janet Silvestri, The DAISY Foundation Regional Program Director, joined SCH nurses in presenting Pickott with the award, a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, and a hand-carved sculpture entitled The Healer’s Touch. In addition, a DAISY Foundation banner signed by Pickott, will be posted in the hospital.
“I have worked in several hospitals during my career,” Pickott says. “My favorites have been small town hospitals that provide a sense of home and family. You quickly learn to appreciate people because that’s what makes this job worthwhile. Respect everyone – they deserve it!”
Nurse nominees Sarah Veith, Traci Glanz, Teresa Miller, Marge Simon, Elaine Pohl, and Adriann Sanders also were recognized. Each received a DAISY pin.
“DAISY award honorees personify the remarkable Patient experience at Sparrow Clinton Hospital,” says Beth Daugherty, Sparrow Clinton Hospital Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services. “These Nurses consistently demonstrate excellence.”
