Sparrow hits Stage 6 in electronic medical record adoption

Published: Feb. 18, 2014

Sparrow has achieved national recognition for the success of its Electronic Medical Record adoption.

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics has granted Stage 6 status to Sparrow's EMR adoption, a distinction held by only 15 percent of U.S. hospitals and health systems. HIMSS Analytics is the authoritative source on EMR adoption trends.

The HIMSS Stage 6 designation reflects Sparrow's commitment to the highest levels of Patient safety and quality care in EMR adoption. Stage 6 hospitals have made significant advancement in their IT capabilities, positioning themselves to successfully address many industry initiatives.

With a few more steps, Sparrow will be able to achieve the final stage (Stage 7), which would put Sparrow in the top 3 percent of hospitals and health systems for EMR adoption. The final stage requires a fully electronic medical record, use of data warehousing and other criteria.

Sparrow Hospital, Sparrow Clinton Hospital and Sparrow Ionia Hospital were all included in this assessment as well as Sparrow Medical Group and other ambulatory sites. iSparrow EMR was deployed throughout the health system in 2012.
