Sparrow Hospital, Sparrow Carson named on 2016 Most Wired

Published: July 12, 2016

Sparrow Hospital in Lansing has been named one of the nation’s top Most Wired Hospitals, following the continued success of iSparrow, its electronic medical record system, as well as other significant technological advances to improve Patient care.

Sparrow Carson Hospital in Carson City was also recognized among the Most Wired small and rural hospitals in the country.

The pair were recognized in the 18th Annual Health Care’s Most Wired® survey, conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks and sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA). The survey explored an organization’s capabilities in four focus areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.

“We are extremely proud to be named among such an elite group of hospitals,” said Tom Bres, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Sparrow Health System. “Every day we work together with talented teams of operational and clinical Caregivers to provide the best in Patient care though leading-edge technology.”

“By using our Epic system, iSparrow, to its greatest advantage, we enhance the use of real-time, relevant data at the bedside and beyond. This data supports our clinicians and positively influences Patient outcomes. It’s part of our vision to be recognized as a national leader in quality and Patient experience.”

Said Matt Thompson, President and CEO of Sparrow Carson Hospital: “Sparrow Carson Hospital is beyond pleased to be named to the Most Wired Hospitals list for the 14th consecutive year. When it comes to technology investment, we are focused on making strategic, advantageous choices that put our Caregivers and Patients first.”

Technology is improving the efficiency of care delivery and creating a new dynamic in Patient interactions, according to the survey results released recently by the AHA’s Health Forum. Most Wired hospitals are using technology to build Patient engagement with the individual’s lifestyle in mind, which includes electronic access to their care team.

“Hospitals are breaking out of their traditional four walls and providing care where and when Patients need it,” said Rick Pollack, president and CEO of the AHA. “These Most Wired hospitals exemplify this transformation by harnessing technology, engaging Patients and offering services remotely.”

HealthCare’s Most Wired® survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, 2016, is published annually by Health & Hospitals Networks (H&HN). The 2016 Most Wired® survey and benchmarking study is a leading industry barometer measuring information technology (IT) use and adoption among hospitals nationwide.

The survey of 680 participants, representing an estimated 2,146 hospitals—more than 34 percent of all hospitals in the U.S.— examines how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based healthcare in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration.

Detailed results of the survey and study can be found in the July issue of H&HN.
