Nurses in Sparrow's Intensive Care Unit recently earned a top national honor from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
The Beacon Award for Excellence is awarded at three levels, with Sparrow earning the highest (gold) designation. Units must demonstrate excellent and sustained performance as measured by meeting evidence-based criteria in six categories: leadership structures and systems, appropriate staffing and staff engagement, effective communication and knowledge management, learning and development, use of evidence-based best practices and processes, and patient outcomes.
"Our ICU nurses handle critically ill adult Patients recovering from cardiovascular surgeries, major trauma, and more. Their exceptional dedication and consistent use of highly refined processes ensures that we are able to provide the best care possible to every patient, every time," said Deb Moran, RN, BSN, MBA, NE-BC, Sparrow's Department Manager of the Intensive Care Unit.
"The Beacon Award recognizes caregivers in extraordinary units whose focus is on a vigorous approach to optimizing only the best patient outcomes. Sparrow Health System salutes our nurses on receiving this recognition, as they now serve as a national model in which others will emulate," said Carol Dwyer, MSN, MM, RN, CENP, Vice President of Nursing.
