Sparrow Ionia COVID testing site moves to east side of hospital

Published: February 1, 2021

IONIA, MI – Sparrow Ionia Hospital is relocating its COVID-19 testing site to improve access to the community and accommodate traffic and weather conditions.

Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, local residents can use the drive-thru building on the east side of the hospital, near the Emergency Department parking lot, to receive the PCR nasopharyngeal swab, the most accurate and dependable COVID-19 test. The new site will be open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Ionia County Health Department provided state-allocated funds to Sparrow Ionia that have been used for construction of the drive-thru building. The new COVID-19 testing location will require patients to enter through the south entrance of the building, then exit through the north side and follow the north road along the hospital. Sparrow Ionia caregivers administering tests will be in a more restricted area on the hospital campus to protect the safety of all patients and visitors.

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with the Ionia County Health Department throughout this pandemic and going forward,” says Steve Dexter, Director of Operations, Sparrow Ionia. “They have provided Sparrow Ionia with the opportunity to continue offering this vital service close to home for our community.”

Sparrow requires patients who don’t have a physician order to use the Symptom Checker on the MySparrow portal to register for a test. The self-registration is so easy it can be done within a couple minutes. The MySparrow app registration and login is available at Sparrow.org/MyChart.
