Foundation awards scholarships for Caregivers’ education

IONIA, MI – Eleven Sparrow Ionia Hospital Caregivers have been awarded scholarships from the Sparrow Ionia Hospital Foundation to assist with their continuing education expenses.

About $21,000 in scholarships were awarded through the Sparrow Ionia Foundation’s Lapo Scholarship Fund and the Goodell Scholarship Fund.

The Foundation presented the scholarships to Caregivers at a Donor Thank You event at the Blanchard House in Ionia.

“The Sparrow Ionia Foundation is very interested in encouraging medical education for our Caregivers,” said Larry McKaig, Foundation President.

“We are delighted to offer scholarships to advance their education, not only for the benefit of Caregivers but the benefit of Patients.”

The recipients were: Taylor Cooper, CNA, Medical/Surgical Unit; Roy Cummings, RT, Radiology; Brittany Heydenburk, HUC, Emergency Department; Laura Hillard, BSN, RN, Medical/Surgical Unit; Connie Huhn, BSN, RN, Emergency Department; Donna Humphreys, MA, Sparrow Medical Group Portland; Teather Lowe, Sonographer, Radiology; Ronda Klein, Dietary Aide, Food and Nutrition; Terri Rowley, RN, Surgery; Ashley Wetherbee, MA, Sparrow Medical Group Ionia; and Judy Wiles, BSN, RN, Medical/Surgical Unit.

Each year, the Sparrow Ionia Hospital Foundation awards scholarships to selected Caregiver applicants. To date, nearly $150,000 has been disseminated to hospital and community members to further their health education.
