Sparrow Ionia Hospital Honors 2023 Nurse of the Year

Published: May 11, 2023

IONIA, MI – Medical Surgical nurse Tanya Koetje, BSN, RN, has been selected as Sparrow Ionia Hospital’s 2023 Nurse of the Year.

Koetje – a caregiver at Sparrow Ionia since 1992 – was nominated by her colleagues for demonstrating the true meaning of compassion: listening to her patients, taking action to help, and advocating for their needs.

“Tanya is an example of a compassionate, caring, kind, intelligent nurse in which we recognize and salute,” said Sally Fox, Sparrow Ionia Hospital Medical Surgical/Special Care Unit Manager. “Tanya is someone who writes the book of empathy and compassion. Having Tanya on our team helps our hospital fulfill our mission to care for every patient, every time.”

Koetje, an evening shift nurse, is often recognized by fellow caregivers for her strong work ethic and willingness to help her colleagues whenever needed.

Sparrow Ionia Hospital congratulates Koetje, and all nurses, for their dedication and commitment to extraordinary patient care.
