Janet DeSantis, RN, a Sparrow nurse on 5 West, was recently honored by Capital Area Michigan Works! as their Alumna of the Year. She was chosen from eight nominees for the honor, which recognizes individuals who have made a courageous change in their lives.

When DeSantis was laid off from her longtime photography services employer, she decided to make a career change and pursue a recently discovered passion to help people.

Through Capital Area Michigan Works! DeSantis began taking classes at Lansing Community College and graduated as a registered nurse from Baker College.

At Sparrow, she cares for Patients with cancer and their families - something close to her heart having lost her mother to the disease. DeSantis plans to continue training and become certified to administered chemotherapy to her Patients.

"I feel really lucky to be working there," says Janet.
