Former Sparrow Pediatric Patients will take center stage for the fifth straight year at next weekend's Children's Ballet Theatre (CBT) production of "The Nutcracker" at Michigan State University's Wharton Center Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.
These children with physical limitations have benefited from a variety of Pediatric services throughout Sparrow, which has enabled them to perform in activities such as this amazing ballet production.
"What these kids go out and do would inspire anyone to get out of their comfort zone and stretch their limitations," said Nadine Methner, a speech pathologist for Sparrow's Pediatric Rehabilitation Services. "Many of them may have difficulty walking, but that doesn't stop them from dancing across the stage during this wonderful holiday tradition."
"The Nutcracker" will feature four guest dancers representing Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, of which Sparrow is a member. Performances will take place at the Wharton Center on Friday, Nov. 29, and Saturday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. Another special show will be offered on Monday, Dec. 2, for school groups. The company members of CBT are also fundraising for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and are encouraging every audience member to donate $1. All proceeds will stay local. The donation site will be set up in the lobby.
