LANSING, Mich. - Sparrow President and CEO Dennis A. Swan, of Okemos, has been appointed to the state's Health Information Technology Commission. The commission facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of interoperable health care information infrastructures in Michigan.

Swan will represent hospitals on the commission. The term expires Aug. 3, 2013.

Sparrow has consistently led the region in delivering the most advanced technology available in patient care. In August, Sparrow announced the launch of a long-term extensive health information technology project that will bring the most comprehensive hospital-based electronic medical record (EMR) system to the region. Focusing on core services is a vital part of achieving Sparrow's new vision of becoming a national leader in quality and patient experience.

Sparrow Hospital was recognized this year as a Laureate by the Computerworld Honors Program. This program, governed by the not-for-profit Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation, has acknowledged organizations that have successfully made exemplary use of information technology to benefit society.
