Sparrow Purple Day participation to raise epilepsy awareness

Published: March 24, 2015

Sparrow is proudly participating in Purple Day on Thursday, encouraging its Caregivers and mid-Michigan community members to wear the color purple to help increase awareness about epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a disorder that disrupts nerve cell activity in the brain, causing seizures. In two-thirds of Patients diagnosed with epilepsy, the cause is unknown. There is no cure.

“We want to get people talking about epilepsy,” said Sparrow Neurologist Erica Austin, D.O. “It is a very common disorder and there is a stigma associated with it. We hope to dispel some of the myths.”

Sparrow is dedicated to achieving the correct diagnosis and providing the best care available. Sparrow’s state-of-the-art Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, the first of its kind in the region, is helping improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.

Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.
