Sparrow supports American Red Cross, encourages others

Published: Feb. 28, 2014

Sparrow is proud to be a member and supporter of the American Red Cross' Ready 365 Giving Program and is encouraging others to help support the organization during Red Cross Month in March.

Anyone can help by volunteering, donating blood, or even eating a slice of pizza. Some local Hungry Howie's locations will be making a donation to the Red Cross for every pizza sold in March. Customers simply need to mention "Red Cross" when ordering. The participating locations, including those in Lansing, East Lansing, and Holt, among others, are owned and operated by Sparrow Foundation Board Member Dominic Carbone.

The Ready 365 Giving Program helps to assist those in need during emergencies by securing food and lodging, supplying blood, helping deployed soldiers get home for the birth of their children, offering life-saving training courses, and much more.

During the winter storm of 2013, the Red Cross provided 1,042 overnight shelter stays, 3,776 meals and 3,617 snacks, and deployed 472 volunteers throughout the mid-Michigan region. It also collects about 40 percent of the blood needed each year in the United States.
