Michael Zaroukian, M.D., Sparrow Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer, was recently recognized for his outstanding volunteer commitment to the American Medical Informatics Association or AMIA.

Dr. Zaroukian and his colleagues on the AMIA Electronic Health Record (EHR) 2020 Task Force received the 2015 AMIA Leadership Award at the association’s annual symposium in San Francisco. They published a paper on the status and future direction of EHRs.

Each year, the Chair of the AMIA Board of Directors and President and CEO select AMIA members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the association or to the field.

Dr. Zaroukian is a nationally renowned expert in health IT. He has been elected to serve as Board Chair-Elect of a prestigious national health care information technology (IT) organization.

Dr. Zaroukian’s first term on the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Board of Directors begins July 1. He will become Board Chair in July 2016.

He previously sat on a White House panel to discuss how best to leverage health IT to improve Patient care quality and value. Dr. Zaroukian was also named one of the top 25 Clinical Information experts in the country by Modern Healthcare magazine, a national industry publication.
