Kira Carter-Robertson, president and CEO of Sparrow Specialty Hospital, will receive the 2012 Athena Young Professional Leadership Award from the Lansing/East Lansing chapter of the Links, Inc.

Each year the award goes to a woman younger than 40 who demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in her business or profession, provides valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in her community and clearly serves as a role model for young women both personally and professionally.

"Kira relentlessly works to ensure that the needs of our Patients always come first," said Dennis A. Swan, President and CEO of Sparrow Health System. "Kira's passion, enthusiasm, attention to detail and personal touch make her a key member of our executive team."

Carter-Robertson has served as president and CEO of Sparrow Specialty Hospital since 2006, and has been a part of Sparrow's team since 2000.

Among her accomplishments at Sparrow, Carter-Robertson aided in the opening of Sparrow Specialty Hospital in 2004. The Specialty Hospital cares for critically-ill Patients who require hospitalization for an average of 25 days.

She is also active in her church, Bethlehem Temple Church, and sits on many community boards, including the Board of Directors for the Capital Region Community Foundation.

"I am humbled and honored to have received this recognition," Carter-Robertson said. "I thank my colleagues for their support and assistance for there is no 'I' in teamwork. I have been entrusted to create a caring environment for those who need it the most, the critically ill, and count it a privilege to serve in this capacity. I am truly blessed to work for such an outstanding organization."
