The 2012 Sparrow Children's Center Telethon was a huge success, raising more than $756,000 to benefit the young Patients of the Sparrow Children's Center.
The telethon aired on WILX TV-10 and featured appearances from local leaders, business owners, families and Sparrow Caregivers. Viewers also got to see touching stories about local children who have benefitted from the care they received at Sparrow.
"This is the 24th year for the Sparrow Children's Center Telethon, and each year is better than the year before," said Joy Wiseman, who coordinated the event for the Sparrow Foundation. "Thank you to the community for your generous donations that will help us make miracles happen for our young champions at Sparrow!"
In a first, medals were handed out during this year's Telethon to recognize the bravery of young Patients and their siblings. The medals were donated by Medals4Mettle, an organization that facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers' medals. The money raised during the telethon will help fund improvements to the Sparrow Children's Center and ensure the ongoing advancement of medical care for all children in mid-Michigan - regardless of their ability to pay. All of the money raised from the telethon stays local.
