Wendi Miller named Volunteer of the Month for April

Published: April 15, 2016

The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Volunteer Services Department have named Wendi Miller of DeWitt the April Volunteer of the Month.

Miller has volunteered in the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care (RNICU) for less than two years, but has made an impact by her devotion to Sparrow’s littlest Patients. Each and every infant receives more than just a massage from her loving hands. She takes her place in these children’s young lives very seriously giving each one tender care as she would her own children or grandchildren. She has been said to have lifted the reputation of this Volunteer group and definitely improved the lives of these very young Patients.

She has found her niche in volunteering for Sparrow and says she always goes home with a warm feeling of having done something special. Her group spends time holding and massaging their young Patients when their parents or guardians cannot be there. It is an important task to the infants who, because of their condition, need special loving care.

Miller was raised in Lansing and now lives with her husband, Dale, in DeWitt. They have three grandchildren, one in California and two in DeWitt. She is a Michigan State University graduate with a degree in education and taught many years in St. Johns.

She has two Yorkies and enjoys reading and power walking. She and Dale travel often to California and Florida.

Miller has also volunteered at her grandsons’ DeWitt schools.

She was intrigued by the Facebook article about training for Infant massage volunteers and found it fit her love of all babies. She has found her niche in volunteering for Sparrow and says she always goes home with a warm feeling of having done something special for Sparrow’s tiniest patients.

The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers takes great honor in celebrating the gifts of hospitality and loving care in Volunteers like Miller who give of their time and talent for the benefit of our Patients.
