The 6th Annual Sparrow Children’s Center Hair-a-Thon in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month took place on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 as a drive-up, drop-off event. The community response was enthusiastic, bringing in more than 1,000 ponytails from over 200 donors! On behalf of the children who will benefit from the generosity of the community, we sincerely thank you!
In 2021, we hope to be able to safely host an in-person event with free haircuts from volunteer stylists once again. The tentative date for the 7th Annual Sparrow Children’s Center Hair-a-Thon is Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon. Please check back for updates as we adapt to the changing circumstances in our community.
Hair donations go to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan and Children With Hair Loss, both Michigan-based organizations that provide free wigs for children and adolescents who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other causes.

During these challenging times, there are still children right here in Mid-Michigan and beyond who are suffering the trauma of hair loss. We are thrilled to have collected thousands of hair donations during the first five years of the Sparrow Children’s Center Hair-a-Thon and appreciate the Greater Lansing community’s ongoing support!
