Expectant Parents Organization

Expectant Parents Organization (EPO), a 501(c)(3), community-based nonprofit agency, has been serving Mid-Michigan parents for over 70 years. Its team of educators have a deep appreciation for the importance of partnering with families during the special time of pregnancy, childbirth and parenting a newborn. This is an exciting time, full of many changes for parents to be. EPO, through a collaborative partnership with Sparrow Hospital, helps with preparing expectant parents for childbirth and parenting, to guide you on this life changing journey. EPO offers a variety of engaging classes supporting best practices for the health of your family; providing participants with skills, knowledge and support needed to make informed decisions and choices, promoting a positive childbirth and parenting experience. The more you know, the better prepared you will feel and the more confidence you will have.

Time to start learning valuable information about pregnancy, childbirth, and infancy.

EPO classes are open for anyone, regardless of where you plan to deliver. Classes are designed for expecting parents and support people. Classes are taught by an excellent team of passionate educators. EPO suggests that the ideal time to take classes is during an expectant parent’s third trimester of pregnancy. Classes will help prepare you for welcoming your new baby into your family. Majority of our classes are currently being held in person, with a couple of Zoom options available.

Not sure where to begin? EPO’s most popular classes are Labor & Delivery and Best Newborn Care Class. Please review topics for classes you are interested in, as there is overlap in many classes, but all offered classes do have many different topics covered.

Capital Area Baby Café is currently being held in person; masks are required for anyone that is two years old and older. Support people, including children, are welcome to attend Baby Café. At Baby Café, an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) will be there along with other breastfeeding professionals to help with any concerns you have in regard to breastfeeding. Baby Café is every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at Pennway Church of God, snacks provided, no advanced registration is required. Evening Baby Café is every first and third Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Pennway Church of God, dinner provided, no advanced registration is required.

EPO also provides car seat inspections with two instructors who are Child Passenger Safety Technicians. This is at no cost to you! If interested, please email epoinfo@expectantparents.org with your name, due date or age of baby, type of car seat you are using and general availability. Plan to allow for 30 minutes per seat; also, if applicable, children or infants who are using the seats must be present during the inspection to ensure a proper fit. Seats should be installed in the vehicle the child(ren) will normally travel in.
