Food & Nutrition at Sparrow

The Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) department is comprised of the hospital's retail food services, patient meal service, and clinical nutrition services.

FANS is committed to good nutrition through fresh, wholesome food. The FANS offices are the base for the diet office and room service call center, food service administrative staff, and clinical nutrition staff.

FANS utilizes a room service patient care menu, which serves1,300 made-to-order patient meals per day. Our retail services include The Gathering Place at Sparrow and Starbucks at E.W. Sparrow Hospital and the Courtside Grill at the Michigan Athletic Club. Each of our facilities offer fresh, unique, and made to order specials daily. We also have an extensive catering service.

The clinical staff of registered dietitians and dietetic technicians provide care and medical nutrition therapy services to approximately 1,500 inpatients per month and ambulatory clinical nutrition services to an additional 200 patients per month.  Clinical nutrition services include inpatient care, sub-specialty clinics, individual outpatient nutrition care, home care, hospice services, outpatient group classes, resident physician education and community outreach events. Sparrow’s medical nutrition therapy service includes cardiac, diabetes, renal, gastroenterology, intensive care, obstetrics, pediatrics, neonatology, and oncology care.
