Published: July 27, 2016

Sparrow Carson Hospital Caregivers will honor H.K. “Pete” Poff, D.O., for his outstanding 50 years of service to the region on Monday, Aug. 1, the same day the hospital celebrates Founder’s Day. This year marks its 80th anniversary. A public ceremony begin at 2 p.m., in the front lobby.

Dr. Poff was an intern at Carson City Hospital from 1966-1967 before practicing in the Ashley area for many years. He most recently provided quality, compassionate care to Patients at Sparrow Medical Group Carson City.

Founder’s Day is celebrated on the birthday of founding President Emmett Binkert, D.O. Dr. Binkert founded the hospital in his home in 1936, then known as Carson City Hospital. What started as a three-bed hospital grew to a 114-bed hospital by the mid-1970s. In 1992, the original structure and early additions were removed and replaced by a two-story building featuring new surgery, laboratory, and administrative offices. In 1996, Carson Health Network was formed. In 2015, Carson Health merged with Sparrow Health System to become Sparrow Carson Hospital. Carson Health had been an affiliate of Sparrow Health System since 1997. Sparrow Carson Hospital now has 61 beds and continues to improve local access and affordable healthcare services to meet Patient expectations for high quality care and experience.
