Published: Sept. 10, 2014

The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Volunteer Services Department have nominated Cathy Cogswell of Lansing as the September 2014 Volunteer of the Month.

She started her service as a volunteer after retiring from Delta Dental. Cogswell began in Mother/Baby (Helping Hands) in 2002 and served as president for three years.

Her enthusiasm and passion for Sparrow earned her a reputation as a dedicated and hard worker. These qualities were noticed by the Women’s Board of Managers and she was elected to the board in 2006. She served until 2012. Cogswell has been both the assistant chair and chair of Volunteer Services.

She continues to serve as an indispensable volunteer in Office Support at the St. Lawrence campus. Cogswell also volunteers in the Mary Magdalene group at St. Lawrence and after three years, has become an assistant shop manager.

She was introduced to her husband Fred on a blind date. They married in 1980 at St. Paul’s Church in Lansing and have four grown children in their blended family. They have been blessed with five grandchildren and twin great-grandsons.

Cogswell loves the positive feel of the Sparrow environment, the people she meets and the joy she finds in being able to give back to her community by helping support Sparrow through her many volunteer duties.
