Celebrating a new home for long-term acute care services

Published: Feb. 20, 2015

Caregivers, Physicians, community leaders and more gathered recently to celebrate the move of Sparrow Specialty Hospital (SSH) to the 8th Floor of the Sparrow Tower. Guests were able to tour the new space, including 30 private Patient rooms, in advance of the Patient move on Feb. 25.

This 30-bed “Hospital within a Hospital” is designed for medically complex and critically ill Patients who need intense, highly technical, extended medical care (25 days or longer) following treatment at a traditional acute care facility, outpatient care setting, or home setting.

Typical care provided at SSH includes post-surgical care such as wound management, complex respiratory and pulmonary care, ventilator management, weaning, and tracheotomy care, management of infectious disease, and coordination of care for multiple system failures.

By relocating SSH to the Tower, SSH is able to improve the Patient experience by offering increased access to specialty services and ancillary support such as Neurology, Orthopedics, Cardiology and more while helping the Health System ensure that all Patients are receiving the appropriate level of care.
