ST. JOHNS, MI – Sparrow Clinton Hospital’s Beth Daugherty has received a prestigious DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award for promoting a positive image of the Nursing profession throughout her illustrious career.

Hospital Nursing leaders and Caregivers held a surprise ceremony to reveal the honor to Daugherty, BSN, RN, MPH, CRRN, Hospital Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Sparrow Clinton.

“This is a humbling experience,” Daugherty said. “I do what I do because I love what I do.”

Nominees for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award are honored for their dedication to nursing through active mentoring, role modeling, and advocating for Patients. Lifetime Achievement Nurses are nominated for the award by their peers, and Daugherty was nominated by her entire staff of Sparrow Clinton Nurses.

“When I heard about the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award, one name came to mind immediately – Beth Daugherty. She has been the most inspiring, challenging, and supportive mentor in my life,” said Sparrow Clinton Patient Care Services Director Mariah Hesse, BSN, RN, CENP. “Beth is an amazing administrator who has so touched many Nurses’ careers and Patients lives.”

Daugherty, a nursing veteran with more than four decades of experience, joined the Sparrow Clinton family in 2015. For her, leadership comes naturally, but nursing is a gift. Her accomplishments as Vice President of Patient Care Services and CNO include twice leading the SCH Nursing Team to ANCC Pathway to Excellence designation, and an increase in Nursing education and certification at Sparrow Clinton.

Under her leadership, direct care Nurses have become bedside champions and informal leaders. In addition, her team has enhanced its use of best practices to ensure safe, compassionate quality care for Patients.

“When we provide Patients with the care they deserve, we improve the quality of life for them and their families,” added Daugherty. “I strongly advocate for Patients and for hospital Caregivers, and I am grateful to have the opportunity serve within Sparrow Health System – that’s what motivates me.”

As a DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Daugherty was presented with a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, and a hand-carved sculpture entitled The Healer’s Touch. Many Nurses from Sparrow Clinton and other facilities throughout Daugherty’s career shared memories and noted her influence and inspiration on their continuing education and career development in a unique picture and remembrance book created for the event.

The DAISY Foundation is also the Founder of the DAISY Award, an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate, and skillful care given by Nurses every day. Nurses are nominated for the award by their Patients and Patients’ families. Sparrow Clinton Hospital honors two Nurses each year as DAISY Award winners. In addition, a DAISY Team Award is presented as recognition if merited.

To nominate an exceptional Sparrow Clinton Nurse or Nursing Team, complete and return a form from one of The DAISY Foundation displays at the hospital.
