Soon, quality emergency care will be even easier to access at Sparrow Clinton Hospital - thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations in St. Johns and its surrounding communities.

The community has contributed more than $1.6 million to the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation's Right Here, Right Now Capital Campaign, surpassing the fundraising goal in support of hospital's new, state-of-the-art Emergency Services Department.

More than 400 gifts have been received from throughout the region. When combined with a recent gift from the Alice Jumper Estate, more than $2.2 million in community philanthropy will offset costs of the current $5.7 million Emergency Services Department construction project.

"When we opened this campaign last year, we had no idea how powerful the community response to our request for donations would become," says Ed Bruun, President and CEO of Sparrow Clinton Hospital. "Your outstanding support of this vital project will allow us to continue to provide you and your family with immediate, local health care when care is most needed. Thank you!"

Construction is well underway with an estimated completion date of July 2014. The current emergency department will continue to serve the community until the new facility opens. There is still time to make a donation. Call the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation at 989.227.3396 or email peter.shannon@sparrow.org.

Volunteer leadership of the Right Here, Right Now Capital Campaign played a key role in going beyond the fundraising goal. Dedicated hospital volunteers and community leaders formed a campaign steering committee in December 2012. Spearheading this important fundraising drive were steering committee members Nick Bancroft, Craig Bishop, William Brewbaker, Gary Brya, Bruce Fandel, Pat and Becky Feldpausch, Ron Huard, Dave Hunt, Dan Matson, Liz Nobis, and Don Rademacher.

Pledges include $500,000 and $100,000 gifts from private donors; a $250,000 lead gift from Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers, $100,000 from Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary, and $75,000 from Mahle Engine Components.

In addition, Sparrow Clinton Hospital Caregivers have invested in the future of their workplace, contributing more than $76,000.

"Businesses, Caregivers and individuals in our community have shown unprecedented support of the hospital with their generous gifts throughout this campaign," says David Hunt, steering committee chairman of the Right Here, Right Now Capital Campaign. "We greatly appreciate every donation because each contribution reflects the trust and faith people have in Sparrow Clinton Hospital and the wonderful care they receive here."

The SCH Emergency Department serves more than 14,000 patients each year, and that number is growing. At 9,935 square feet, the new facility is three times the size of the existing emergency department.

Features include eight private rooms and two trauma treatment rooms as well as an exclusive lobby, a family conference room, an observation room where Patients can wait for test results, a centralized nursing station, and a decontamination treatment area.

This project is one of many Sparrow renovations that have resulted in more than $250 million reinvested in the region over the last three years. For more information about the St. Johns build and other Sparrow construction projects, visit BuildingSparrow.org.
