Sparrow Medical Group (SMG) now offers gastroenterology services at Sparrow Carson and Sparrow Ionia Hospitals.
Expanding services close to home, Sparrow Carson, Sparrow Medical Group and Sparrow Ionia welcome Iftiker Ahmad, M.D., as the highly skilled physician providing care at SMG Gastroenterology Carson and SMG Gastroenterology Ionia. Dr. Ahmad is accepting new patients by physician referral.
Dr. Ahmad’s most common areas of focus consist of disorders of the colon and upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, acute and chronic liver diseases, and pancreatic disorders. He performs a variety of diagnostics and procedures including biliary, esophageal, and duodenal stent placements, cholangioscopy-guided lithotripsy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), and radiofrequency ablation treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus.

Said Linda Reetz, president of Sparrow Ionia Hospital: “Sparrow Ionia is thrilled to welcome Dr. Ahmad to the Ionia community, as he is one of the most prominent gastroenterologists in the region. This new service will allow patients to remain close to home to receive gastroenterology specialty care. It is our responsibility, as the only hospital in the county, to continue to develop new programs and services locally.”
Dr. Ahmad obtained his undergraduate degree from Kenyon College in Ohio and his medical degree from Wayne State University. He completed his residency at Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at Wayne State University. Dr. Ahmad is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine-ABIM.
SMG Gastroenterology Carson is located at 401 E. Elm St., Carson City, and SMG Gastroenterology Ionia is at 550 E. Washington St., Ionia.
