LANSING, Mich. - Sparrow Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of John Armstrong, M.D., as chief of the medical staff for a two-year term. The appointment took effect Jan. 1.
"It is a privilege and an honor to be elected by my peers to lead a medical staff that works hard to provide quality care to patients and be nationally recognized as a leader in quality," Dr. Armstrong said.
"Our dedicated physicians work to improve the health of the people in our communities by providing quality, compassionate care to everyone, every time," he said.
Armstrong is chairperson of critical care services at Sparrow Hospital and has served as chief of staff-elect for the past two years. He was elected by the active members of Sparrow's 981 physicians to serve as their representative to the hospital board, the executive management team and the community.
Dr. Armstrong is board certified in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He is a graduate of Boston University and the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. He also trained at Henry Ford Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Hospital.
He is a clinical professor of medicine at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Armstrong lives in Okemos, is married and has four children. He enjoys sailing and biking and has coached soccer.
He takes over for previous chief of medical staff, Michael R. Clark, M.D. During Dr. Armstrong's term, James Olson, M.D., will serve as chief of staff-elect.
