Sparrow is partnering with the Ingham County Health Department and Dean Transportation to pilot test the Lansing-area’s only Mobile Health Clinic, going on location to residents to provide free basic health services.
The mobile clinic, housed in a bus renovated by Dean Transportation, made a stop Wednesday at the Allen Market Place in Lansing and will be at two other locations in September.
- Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2-6 p.m., Edgewood Village Apartments, 6213 Tower Gardens Circle, East Lansing.
- Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2-6 p.m., Tabernacle of David, 2645 W. Holmes Road, Lansing.
Further stops are expected to be scheduled later in the year.
The clinic reflects Sparrow’s mission to improve the health of the people in our communities by providing quality, compassionate care to everyone, every time.
“The Mobile Health Clinic concept is part of Sparrow’s outreach commitment to the community,” said Stella Cash, Sparrow Vice President of Development and Strategic Partnerships. “Knowing that it is difficult for some to access healthcare, this outreach effort brings healthcare to the people.”
The clinic is open to anyone and will provide adult and childhood immunizations, flu shots, education, referrals, diabetes checks, and screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, lead, glucose, and much more.
The clinic will be staffed by trained medical personnel and wellness specialists.
“The purpose of the Mobile Health Clinic is twofold,” said Linda Vail, Ingham County’s Health Officer. “It will go into neighborhoods that need better access to care and provide on-site screening services, and it will connect Patients to a medical home if they do not already have one.
“Access to care and continuity of care are real needs in our community and were identified as priorities by the Health Department, Sparrow, and other partners in a community health needs assessment. We’re excited to work together to address these issues.”
Services delivered at the mobile clinic will become part of the Patient’s electronic medical record, which connects Patients’ current visits to any previous visit they’ve had at Sparrow and the Ingham County Health Department.
“The partnership is truly a very personal project for myself,” said Kellie Dean, President of Dean Transportation. “Everyone at Dean has been very proud to have assisted in this project. It is a tremendous boost to this initiative having Sparrow take a prominent lead. We look forward to assisting with medical education throughout our community.”
