Twenty-five years ago, Tanya Schmidt was born in her parents' bedroom after coming too quickly for her mom to get to the hospital. Little did Tanya know, her daughter would be born exactly the same way in the same Grand Ledge house.
"I woke up and just a few minutes later I yelled to my mom, 'Call 911. The head is coming out,'" she recalled. "I knew we weren't going to have time to get to the hospital."
Tanya's mother and sister, Kelly, took turns talking to Eaton County dispatchers who helped talk the women through delivering the baby. Just minutes after the 911 call was placed, Brooklyn Olivia was born.
"It happened so quickly," she said. "My husband didn't even have time to get home from work."
Jake Schmidt was on the phone at work with another 911 dispatcher, who told him his daughter had arrived.
Tanya and Brooklyn were taken by ambulance to Sparrow where both are now resting and recovering from a wild experience.
"Knowing we were both born in the same house is pretty special," added Tanya. "I came before the paramedics arrived, just like she did."
