Sparrow Clinton Hospital honors volunteers for achievements

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Sparrow Clinton Hospital recently honored community members at its annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon.

Volunteers have played an integral role at the hospital since its founding in 1927 and continue to be a valued asset.

All volunteers in good standing were invited to share in the celebration, which recognized the exceptional achievements made by hospital volunteers in 2013.

Kerry Sheen-Stock of St. Johns was named 2013 Volunteer of the Year. Sheen has played a key role in recent hospital events, actively participating on the Family Fit Fest and Community Health Fair committees over the past four years. She also serves as Chairperson of the SCH Foundation Committee and will soon add a Board of Directors membership to her extensive resume.

"To say this volunteer is active in our community is an understatement - she's a networking dynamo," said Nan Simons, director of Sparrow Clinton Hospital Community Relations, Marketing & Volunteers. "Whether working with St. Johns Rotary, International Missions Church or Clinton County DHS as a foster parent and mother of eight adopted daughters, she gives with all her heart. It's that gift of compassion and wealth of insight that makes Kerry so very valuable to Sparrow Clinton Hospital."

Dave Hunt, local businessman and Sparrow Clinton Hospital Board Member, also was honored. Hunt received a special Community Leader award in recognition of his work as chairman of the hospital's Right Here, Right Now Capital Campaign that raised more than $1.6 million to build a new Emergency Services Department.

A dedicated community leader, in 2003 Hunt joined the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Board of Directors where he has served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman. He also serves on the Sparrow Health System Board of Directors, and is active in St. Johns Kiwanis 707 Club and the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce.
