Sparrow shifts COVID vaccines from indoor site to drive-thru

Sparrow Shifts COVID vaccines to drive-thru

Published: June 17, 2021

LANSING, MI – Sparrow, and the community, has reached a milestone in COVID-19 care as more and more people get protection through the vaccine, prompting Sparrow to close its indoor vaccination site at Frandor and shift all vaccines and testing to the nearby drive-thru.

After distributing about 33,000 vaccines since opening in April, the Sparrow indoor vaccination clinic inside the old Sears will close at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19. The drive-thru site has been very popular with patients, so Sparrow will continue to offer blood draws and COVID testing seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Additionally, we will offer vaccines in the drive-thru on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, and adjust the vaccination hours to meet demand.

COVID vaccinations will continue, starting Tuesday, June 22, at the Sparrow Laboratories Drive-Thru Services site at the old Sears Auto Center, 3131 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Vaccination hours at the outdoor site are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Sparrow will continue to offer the Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Those who received their first dose at the indoor site will need to get their second dose at the drive-thru after June 20.

The changes are another sign that the community has made huge strides in combatting the virus. Sparrow has administered about 510,000 COVID-19 tests and provided a total of 130,000 vaccines to caregivers and non-caregivers alike. Sparrow has brough the vaccine directly to the community through its Mobile Health Clinic and high school clinics.

Sparrow has been a national leader in COVID-19 patient care and testing, becoming one of the first hospitals in Michigan to offer tests for inpatients and using innovative processes to increase access and availability.
