Sparrow Hospital is pleased to announce that Mary Lou Wesley, RN, MSN, a Michigan native with outstanding nursing leadership credentials, has joined Sparrow in the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.

Wesley will lead a staff of nearly 2,000 nurses at Sparrow and succeeds Elizabeth Henry who retired on Jan 2.

"I look forward to working closely with the Medical Staff to build on the solid foundation that Elizabeth Henry developed to ensure Sparrow's continued leadership in the changing healthcare environment," said Wesley.

Wesley comes to Sparrow from Wellstar Health System in Marietta, Ga., where she served for three years as Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. Prior to Wellstar, she held the position of Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Nursing Services for eight years at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor. Wesley holds degrees from Mercy College of Detroit and Madonna University in Livonia.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to join Sparrow Health System and to return to the beautiful state of Michigan," said Wesley. "My husband Gary and I grew up in Southeast Michigan and knew that Sparrow Health System had an excellent reputation for high quality, patient-centered care and that the nursing and medical staff was outstanding."

Wesley was selected by a Search Committee that included representatives from the Health System Executive team, plus nursing, medical, and nursing union leaders.
