Sparrow Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Michael Zaroukian, M.D, Ph.D., MACP, FHIMSS, has been appointed to a prestigious information technology workgroup to help shape national healthcare policy and incentive programs.

The “Advanced Health Models and Meaningful Use Workgroup” is one of several Health IT Policy Committee workgroups formed as subcommittees to a federal advisory committee. Members will make recommendations on standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria for sharing and using health information electronically.

Dr. Zaroukian’s workgroup will focus on health management tools like clinical decision support, care coordination across all types of providers, and outcome management tools.

“I expect that by bringing my practicing Physician and informaticist perspective to the deliberations, I will be able to help shape national policy and incentive programs that are well aligned with Sparrow’s goals,” said Zaroukian.

Dr. Zaroukian is a nationally renowned expert in health IT. He previously sat on a White House panel to discuss how best to leverage health IT to improve Patient care quality and value. Dr. Zaroukian was also named one of the top 25 Clinical Information experts in the country by Modern Healthcare magazine, a national industry publication.
