Lansing, Mich. - Physicians from China saw how Sparrow provides full-service family medicine care to Patients during a visit this week.
Dr. Honglei Dai and Dr. Guanqun Chao observed Randy Pearson, MD, as he made rounds and provided care to Sparrow Patients. Sparrow is involved in training doctors from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou, China, through a partnership that involves Michigan State University and other Michigan health systems.
"The goal is to teach Chinese physicians how to practice family medicine as it is practiced in the U.S.," said Dr. Pearson. "In China, Patients often see specialists for any ailment, for example, visiting a neurologist for a headache. Seeing a primary care physician often saves money and results in better Patient care."
Dr. Pearson visited Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in March 2011 as part of a two-month training program. Another Sparrow physician and MSU faculty member, Dr. Henry Barry, MD, will travel to China next September.
